How to book travel for someone else on your account

Booking travel for someone else is simple if you follow the right steps. Whether for family, friends, or colleagues, here is how you can do it smoothly.

1. Check the platform’s policy

  • Most airlines and booking platforms allow you to book travel for others, even if you are not traveling yourself;

  • If using loyalty points, check if third-party bookings are permitted under your program rules.

2. Enter the correct traveler information

  • Enter the traveler’s full name exactly as it appears on their passport or ID;

  • Provide their email and phone number if possible, so they receive trip updates directly;

  • For international travel, complete additional fields like passport number, date of birth, and visa details where required.

3. Use your payment method

  • You can usually pay with your own credit/debit card even if you are not the traveler;

  • Some airlines may require card authorization or verification at check-in, check in advance and complete any necessary forms if you won’t be present.

4. Manage and share the booking

  • Use the platform’s “Manage Booking” tool to add extras or make changes;

  • Share the PNR or booking reference with the traveler so they can check flight status and boarding info themselves.

5. Communicate clearly with the traveler

  • Send them the full itinerary and inform them of any special requirements (e.g., early check-in, transit visa needs, baggage policies);

  • If they are a first-time traveler, walk them through key steps like check-in and boarding procedures.

Booking for someone else is straightforward if done carefully. Always double-check the details to avoid surprises at the airport.
